The Lie of Gravity

Density, Buoyancy, and the Hermetic Roots of Newton's Invisible Force

If gravity has never been directly observed, measured in isolation, or reproduced vertically — what are we actually putting our faith in?

If you tell someone gravity is not real, they will look at you like you lost your mind. That reaction alone should cause a careful thinker to pause. We are taught from childhood that gravity is a settled scientific fact — no different than observing that fire is hot or water is wet. But it is not in the same category. Fire and water can be directly felt and tested by any child. Gravity cannot. What we actually observe is that things fall. The word gravity is the name given to a theory about why they fall. Those are two very different things.

Science is supposed to be built on observation, repeatability, and testability. Yet when you ask for a direct observation of the force called gravity — not things falling, but the force itself — no one can produce it. You will not be handed a jar of it. You will not be given a device that measures it the way a thermometer measures heat. You will be shown a theory that has been treated as a fact for so long that questioning it is considered an insult to intelligence.

This study is not written to stir up a quarrel. It is written to set truth on the table and let it stand on its own. When we actually examine what gravity is, where the idea came from, and who its founding theorist was, the whole thing begins to look very different. And when we put the natural, observable principles of density and buoyancy next to it, the comparison is not even close.

Part I — What Gravity Actually Claims

Newton's law of universal gravitation says that every object in the universe with mass attracts every other object with mass, and the strength of that attraction is proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them. In plain language: everything pulls on everything else, and the bigger the mass, the harder the pull.

Newton's Own Doubts

Here is something rarely printed in textbooks. The man credited with discovering the law of gravity did not actually believe that the force of gravity acting through empty space was possible. He called the idea absurd. In 1693 he wrote to Richard Bentley:

▸ Isaac Newton, Letter to Richard Bentley, 1693

"That gravity should be innate, inherent, and essential to matter, so that one body may act upon another at a distance through a vacuum, without the mediation of anything else by and through which their action and force may be conveyed from one to another, is to me so great an absurdity that I believe no man who has in philosophical matters a competent faculty of thinking can ever fall into it."

Read that slowly. The founder of the theory is on record calling the central idea of his own theory "so great an absurdity" that no thinking man could accept it. That quote is almost never taught. It should be the first thing every physics student reads.

The Circular Reasoning Problem

Ask a scientist how much the earth weighs. They will give you a number. Ask them how they know that number. They calculated it using the force of gravity. Now ask them how they know how strong gravity is. They calculated it using the mass of the earth. You have just watched a snake eat its own tail. The mass proves the gravity, and the gravity proves the mass. Neither one was ever directly measured. This is not a small footnote — this is the foundation of the whole model.

The Mass and Weight Sleight of Hand

There is a quiet trick hidden inside the language of physics that most people never notice. Physical objects have always had weight. You can feel it. A bag of groceries is heavy. A feather is light. Weight is a direct, observable property of matter. But modern physics divorced weight from matter and invented a new category called mass, then defined weight as gravity acting on mass. In one move, the natural property of things (weight) was replaced with a theoretical construct (mass) that only has meaning if gravity already exists. Take gravity out of the picture, and mass dissolves back into the weight we could always directly observe with a kitchen scale. Gravity was not added to explain what we see. Gravity was inserted into the definitions themselves, so that we could no longer even describe weight without assuming gravity. The language was rewritten around the theory to make the theory feel necessary.

Part II — The Man Behind the Theory

Modern textbooks present Isaac Newton as the patron saint of rational science — a cool-headed empiricist who watched an apple fall and discovered the mathematical law governing the universe. That picture is not just incomplete. It is a deliberate airbrush of the man.

When Newton died in 1727, he left behind an enormous trove of private papers. For almost two hundred years these papers were suppressed, finally sold at auction in 1936 and eventually studied by the economist John Maynard Keynes. What Keynes found shocked him:

▸ John Maynard Keynes, Newton the Man, 1946

"Newton was not the first of the age of reason. He was the last of the magicians, the last of the Babylonians and Sumerians, the last great mind which looked out on the visible and intellectual world with the same eyes as those who began to build our intellectual inheritance rather less than 10,000 years ago."

Keynes estimated that roughly half of Newton's written output was on alchemy, hermetic philosophy, and occult interpretations of scripture — more than he ever wrote on physics and mathematics combined. Newton spent decades obsessed with the Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus, even producing his own English translation of it from Latin.

If any of this sounds like speculation, it is not. These are mainstream academic facts. Newton's own handwritten English translation of the Emerald Tablet is held at King's College, Cambridge, cataloged as Keynes MS. 28. Newton's full body of alchemical writings — over one million words in his own handwriting — has been digitized by the Chymistry of Isaac Newton project at Indiana University and can be read online. The Newton Project at Oxford has cataloged his theological, alchemical, and occult writings alongside his scientific papers. None of this is hidden. It is simply not taught. The sober-rationalist Newton in the textbooks is a modern invention. The historical Newton, verified by primary documents at three of the most respected universities in the English-speaking world, was an alchemist, an occultist, and a hermetic translator who published laws of physics on the side.

This is the man who gave the modern world its picture of how the universe operates. When we accept his framework without question, we are not accepting neutral mathematics. We are accepting the framework of a hermetic magician who openly said the idea of gravity was absurd, yet published it anyway because the mathematics happened to predict motion.

As Above, So Below

Hermeticism is an ancient body of occult writings attributed to the mythical figure Hermes Trismegistus — a fusion of the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth. Its central text, the Emerald Tablet, opens with what is perhaps the most famous occult phrase ever written:

▸ The Emerald Tablet of Hermes Trismegistus

"That which is above is like that which is below, and that which is below is like that which is above, to accomplish the miracles of the one thing."

This is the hermetic principle of correspondence. It teaches that the same forces and patterns operate at every scale — from the smallest particle to the largest celestial body — and that knowing the pattern at one level gives you power over all the others. It is not science. It is mysticism dressed in philosophical robes.

Now look at Newton's universal law of gravitation. It asserts that the same attractive force operating between an apple and the earth also operates between the earth and the moon, between the moon and the sun, and between every star and every other star across the cosmos — all following the exact same mathematical pattern. The law above is the law below. The hermetic principle of correspondence, translated into mathematics, and handed to the world as objective science.

Newton personally translated the phrase "as above, so below" from Latin into English. Then his great work, the Principia, unified above and below under one law. That is not coincidence. That is a hermetic magician putting his central occult axiom into the mathematics of his own theory of the cosmos. Universal gravitation is the Emerald Tablet translated into equations. The word "universal" in universal gravitation is itself a hermetic word — the claim that one principle rules the whole, above and below, visible and invisible, earthly and celestial.

Scripture takes the opposite position. The very first thing Yahuah does after separating light from darkness is to install a firmament that divides the waters above from the waters below (Genesis 1:6–8). The heavens and the earth are deliberately separated, not unified. The cosmos is structured by boundaries that Yahuah Himself placed there. The hermetic claim that above and below follow the same principle is, at root, a denial of the firmament and a denial of the created order. Newton's gravity universalizes what scripture divides. Modern physicists have inherited this framework without realizing its source.

Density and Buoyancy: What We Can Actually Observe

Everything gravity is said to explain about falling and rising bodies can be explained better, more simply, and with direct observation by the natural principles of density and buoyancy. These are not theories. They are observable, testable, and demonstrable every single day.

A helium balloon rises. Gravity says it falls. Gravity is wrong — or at least, gravity needs a second principle (buoyancy) added on to explain why the balloon actually rises. Smoke rises. Hot air rises. Wood floats. A steel ship floats even though it is far heavier than a rock. Why? Because the average density of the ship, including the air inside it, is less than the density of the water it displaces. Every child who has ever played in a bathtub has proven buoyancy. No child has ever proven gravity.

Density and buoyancy work on a simple, observable rule: things seek their place in a medium according to their density relative to that medium. Less dense things rise. More dense things sink. The medium itself — air, water, or any other fluid — is what does the work. There is no invisible attractive force required. There is no mysterious action at a distance. There is only matter, medium, and relative density.

Observation Gravity's Explanation Density / Buoyancy
Rock sinks in water Earth's mass pulls it down Rock is denser than water
Helium balloon rises Requires buoyancy as second principle Helium is less dense than air
Smoke rises upward Contradicts simple gravity model Hot gas less dense than cool air
Steel ship floats Needs buoyancy to save the theory Average density below water's
Feather falls slowly "Air resistance" added on Low density meets denser medium

Notice the pattern. In every single case, gravity needs buoyancy added on to make sense of what we actually see. But buoyancy and density stand alone. They do not need gravity to explain anything. The simpler principle, the one we can directly observe, fully accounts for the evidence. Ockham's razor — the rule that the simpler explanation is usually the correct one — cuts cleanly in favor of density and buoyancy.

If anyone wants to verify this for themselves, the evidence is sitting in plain sight on the periodic table. Every element has a density listed next to it — how much a given volume of that substance weighs. Hydrogen: 0.00009 g/cm³. Lead: 11.3. Osmium: 22.6. Every element behaves exactly according to its density number. No invisible force required, no gravity equations needed. The information was there the whole time.

― Four Failures ―

Where the Model Breaks Down

Four places where gravity fails in ways anyone can understand without a physics degree.

Failure OneThe No-Fuel Problem+

Here is a rule everybody already knows from daily life: nothing does work for free. Your car needs gas. Your phone needs charging. Your body needs food before it can lift a grocery bag. This is one of the most basic rules in all of physics — the conservation of energy. Energy has to come from somewhere.

Gravity is supposedly pulling every object in the universe, every second, forever. What is it burning to do that? Where is the fuel? If your car ran forever with no gas, you would be suspicious. Gravity runs forever with no fuel, and we are told not to ask. A force that constantly does work with no energy input is not a force — it is a miracle. And miracles are supposed to belong to Yahuah, not Isaac Newton.

Failure TwoThe Open Window Problem+

Try this in your own kitchen. Open a can of soda and listen to the fizz. The pressure inside rushes out to the lower pressure outside. This is what pressurized air does — every single time, without exception. High pressure rushes into low pressure until they equalize.

We are told that earth's atmosphere, which is under pressure, sits right up next to the vacuum of outer space with nothing between them except an invisible force called gravity. No wall, no ceiling, no container. Put a can of pressurized air next to a vacuum chamber and open the valve in any lab on earth — the air rushes into the vacuum instantly. But somehow our entire atmosphere has been holding perfectly still against a vacuum for thousands of years. Either pressurized gas behaves one way on earth and a different way in space, or something physical is actually holding our atmosphere in. Scripture has always said there is a firmament — a solid expanse above the earth. That matches everything we can actually observe.

Failure ThreeThe Moon and the Tides Problem+

We are told the moon pulls the ocean upward to create high tide. The moon is smaller than the earth. By gravity's own rules, the earth's pull on its own oceans should be far stronger than the moon's pull from hundreds of thousands of miles away. How does the smaller, weaker, faraway moon win that tug-of-war against the earth right underneath the water?

It gets worse. High tide happens on both sides of the earth at the same time — including the side facing away from the moon. A child can hear that and know something is off. And here is the test anyone can verify: look at the Great Lakes. They are vast bodies of water made of the same H₂O as the ocean. The moon passes over them too. Where are the tides? Nowhere. If gravity from the moon caused tides, the Great Lakes would have them. They don't. Tides are caused by temperature, salinity, and the sun warming the water — things we can actually measure.

Failure FourThe Missing Experiment+

Here is a simple test any high school physics class could perform, and it has never been done publicly. Hang a wrecking ball twenty feet in the air. Right next to it, hang an orange at the same height. Now drop a penny from directly underneath each one at the exact same time. If gravity really pulls matter toward matter, the penny falling under the wrecking ball should feel extra downward pull from thousands of pounds of steel hanging right above it. It should hit the ground slightly before the penny under the orange.

What actually happens? Both pennies hit at exactly the same moment. The massive wrecking ball has no measurable pull on the penny passing below it — none. The experiment is so simple that any teacher could perform it in an afternoon. Ask yourself why no textbook features it. Ask yourself why this obvious test of the theory has never been advertised. The answer is that the results do not cooperate with the story we have been told.

Einstein's Rescue Attempt

When Newton's gravity began to run into problems — planets not moving exactly the way the math predicted — the establishment did not abandon the theory. They doubled down. Along came Albert Einstein in the early 1900s with a new explanation that kept gravity alive by redefining it. Gravity, he said, was not really a force at all. It was the curvature of something called space-time caused by massive objects. Big objects bend space around them, and other objects slide along the bends.

Read that again. Space is bending. Here is the obvious question nobody is allowed to ask: what is space made of? Space is supposed to be empty. It is the name we give to nothing. How do you bend nothing? The classic illustration physics teachers use is a bowling ball on a stretched rubber sheet — the ball makes a dip, and marbles roll into it. But the rubber sheet is a physical object being pulled down by actual density in a room full of air. Take the rubber sheet away and leave only space, and nothing bends, because there is nothing there. The whole illustration is cheating.

Einstein's physics has required one rescue invention after another to keep working. When galaxies did not spin the way the theory said they should, physicists invented dark matter — invisible, undetectable matter that supposedly makes up the missing pieces. When the universe did not expand the way they expected, they invented dark energy — invisible, undetectable energy pushing things apart. Together, these two inventions now account for roughly ninety-five percent of what the model claims exists. Let that number sink in. The current mainstream cosmology openly admits it cannot account for ninety-five percent of what it says is out there, and it fills the gap with invisible fudge factors. A theory that requires ninety-five percent invisible material to work is not science. It is a religion with math.

The Silenced Voices

Not every great mind bowed to this consensus. Nikola Tesla — arguably the most accomplished practical scientist of the modern era — openly rejected Einstein's relativity and insisted on the existence of ether, a real substance filling all space through which electromagnetic and other phenomena could propagate. Tesla believed ether and electromagnetism could account for whatever minor attraction matter actually exhibits, without any need for a mystical gravitational force or curved nothing. For his trouble, Tesla died broke, his papers confiscated by the United States government, his name quietly minimized in physics education for most of the twentieth century.

Other experiments produced results that contradicted the mainstream framework and were either reinterpreted away or buried. The Sagnac experiment showed rotation could be measured in ways that contradicted relativity. The Airy failure produced results that did not fit the heliocentric model. The Michelson-Morley experiment was reinterpreted to save the theory rather than challenge it. The pattern across the last century is consistent: evidence that threatens the framework gets silenced, not engaged.

Why the Agenda Matters

The natural question is: if gravity is this weak as a theory, why has it been defended so hard? The answer is that the entire modern cosmological worldview depends on it. Without gravity, the heliocentric model falls apart — there is nothing to keep planets in orbit around the sun. Without gravity, the Big Bang has no mechanism. Without gravity, the deep-time framework required by evolution collapses. Without gravity, the entire picture of a purposeless, self-assembling cosmos that eliminates the need for a Creator cannot stand.

That is the agenda. It is not a secret meeting of scientists in a dark room. It is a worldview commitment so deep that its defenders cannot see it anymore. The modern scientific establishment inherited a framework built by a hermetic alchemist, extended by men steeped in the same occult tradition, and now used to push the Creator out of His own creation. If gravity falls, heliocentrism falls. If heliocentrism falls, the Big Bang falls. If the Big Bang falls, billions of years fall. And if billions of years fall, Genesis 1 stands unchallenged.

This is why anyone who questions gravity is immediately ridiculed. Not because the evidence for gravity is so strong, but because the worldview that depends on it is so fragile. A worldview held together by social pressure, not science.

Part VI — What Scripture Says

Scripture never once mentions gravity. Not a hint, not a suggestion, not a shadow of it. What scripture says about the cosmos is that Yahuah laid the foundations of the earth, stretched out the heavens, set the sun and moon for signs and seasons, and established the earth so it cannot be moved.

The Earth Cannot Be Moved

▸ Psalm 104:5

"Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever."

▸ 1 Chronicles 16:30

"Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved."

▸ Psalm 93:1

"The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty… the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved."

Three times scripture tells us the earth cannot be moved. Modern science tells us it is hurtling through space at over 67,000 miles per hour while spinning at 1,000 miles per hour at the equator, while the solar system itself is rocketing through the galaxy, while the galaxy is flying through the universe. Someone is wrong. When Yahuah says the earth cannot be moved, He means the earth cannot be moved.

Yahuah Upholds What He Made

When we ask scripture what actually holds creation together, the answer is not an impersonal force of attraction between masses. The answer is the living Creator Himself.

▸ Nehemiah 9:6

"Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all."

▸ Jeremiah 10:12

"He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion."

▸ Isaiah 40:26

"Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth."

Yahuah did not create and walk away. He preserves them all. He established the world, stretched out the heavens, and continues to uphold what He made. Not one star falls out of line. Not one planet drifts off course. Creation stands because its Maker actively holds it — by His power, His wisdom, and His word. Modern science replaced this living Sustainer with a mathematical abstraction called gravity, and most believers have accepted the trade without noticing what was taken from them.

Law of Yahuah vs. Laws of Nature

Modern science speaks constantly of laws of nature. The law of gravity. The laws of thermodynamics. The laws of motion. Notice the language. These are laws that rule the universe — impersonal, automatic, requiring no lawgiver, no covenant, and no obedience. The framework itself has displaced the Torah.

The scriptures speak of one law: the Torah of Yahuah. It is His instruction, given to His people, requiring our response. When the world adopted laws of nature as the ruling framework of reality, it did more than replace a scientific model. It replaced the concept of law itself. Law was no longer something given by a sovereign and requiring obedience. It became something discovered by man in impersonal matter, requiring only measurement.

When Yahuah is removed as the active sustainer of creation and replaced with impersonal laws of nature, the created order becomes self-running. Once creation is self-running, the Creator becomes optional. Once the Creator becomes optional, His Torah becomes optional. Once His Torah becomes optional, sin is redefined and the whole biblical structure is replaced by a pagan one wearing Christian costume jewelry.

This is why the issue of gravity is not merely an interesting scientific debate. It touches the very question of who rules creation. Is reality governed by the living Yahuah and His Torah — or by impersonal mathematical principles inherited from Egyptian and Babylonian mystery religion? You cannot hold both frameworks at the same time. One will always replace the other.

Conclusion

If you have walked through this study and are still uncomfortable, that is an honest response. We have all been catechized in the gravity story from the cradle. It takes time and effort to pull the thread and see how much of what we were taught is assumption dressed as fact.

The case is this. Gravity has never been directly observed, only inferred. Its founding theorist was a hermetic alchemist who personally called the idea absurd. Its governing axiom comes straight out of Egyptian occult philosophy. Its math runs on circular reasoning — mass defined by gravity, gravity defined by mass. It violates basic physics by doing endless work with no energy source, and it requires a pressurized atmosphere to sit peacefully next to a vacuum with no container. It cannot explain why the Great Lakes have no tides. The one simple experiment that would test it vertically has never been publicly performed. Its modern extension requires ninety-five percent invisible material to keep from collapsing. Meanwhile, density and buoyancy — observable, testable, and verifiable from the periodic table itself — fully explain what we actually see every day. Scripture never mentions gravity, says the earth cannot be moved, and tells us that creation is actively sustained by the living hand of Yahuah.

When people look at you like you are crazy for questioning gravity, remember that the weight of their reaction is not the weight of evidence. It is the weight of a worldview that cannot survive the question being asked. The one thing a religion cannot tolerate is an honest look at its foundations. You are not crazy for looking. You are doing what every person who loves truth has always had to do: test everything, hold fast to what is good, and be willing to stand alone when the crowd is standing on sand.

▸ 1 Thessalonians 5:21

"Prove all things; hold fast that which is good."

Salvation is in the blood of the Messiah Yahushua. The Torah of Yahuah is our instruction. Creation itself declares His glory. And when the fog of man-made theories lifts, what remains is exactly what scripture said from the beginning: a designed world, held together by the living Creator, in which things fall because they are denser than air, rise because they are lighter than it, and move in His order because He said so.
