Is This the Ekklesia?

The word "church" doesn't appear in Hebrew Scripture — because the concept doesn't exist there. The closest Hebrew equivalent is miqra qodesh (מקרא קדש) — a "set-apart calling out" — and every time it appears in Leviticus 23, it is attached to one of Yahuah's appointed times, the Moedim. The "called out ones" were called out to meet with Him at His feasts.

When the Greek ekklesia replaced this Hebrew concept, it kept the phrase "called out" but severed the connection to the Moedim. Called out — but called out to what? The Hebrew answered that question. The Greek left it blank. And into that silence, men built buildings, created programs, and abandoned the very appointments the calling was about.

Even the English word "church" doesn't come from ekklesia. It comes from the Germanic kirche, rooted in kuriakos — "belonging to a lord." The word itself was swapped. The early believers in Acts 2:46 met daily in homes and in the temple courts. No building fund. No programs. No 501(c)(3). Just a people set apart, keeping Torah, and meeting at the times Yahuah appointed.

Today, thousands of church buildings stand where the Moedim once did. The feasts of Yahuah have been replaced by a man-made calendar. The "called out ones" gather on the wrong day, celebrate the wrong holidays, and have no idea what they were called out for.

What you see below is the result. These snapshots are not meant to mock — they are meant to make you ask one simple question: is this what Yahushua had in mind?

01

Drive-Thru Prayer

Every Saturday 9–11am

Convenience Culture Prayer

Prayer — the most intimate act between a soul and the Creator — reduced to a convenience window. Pull up, place your order, drive away. No relationship. No accountability. No community. Just a spiritual drive-thru on the way to brunch.

"But when you pray, go into your inner room, shut your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."

— Matthew 6:6

Yahushua didn't say "roll down your window." He said shut your door. Prayer was never designed to be convenient — it was designed to be personal.

The Building Fund

Money Buildings Priorities

Millions poured into buildings with coffee bars, gymnasiums, and state-of-the-art lighting — while the poor in the congregation struggle to pay rent. The early ekklesia met in homes. Yahushua said the temple would be torn down. Yet the modern church keeps building them bigger.

"Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."

— John 2:19

Yahushua was talking about His body, not a building campaign. The temple of Yahuah was never meant to be a brick-and-mortar empire. You are the temple.

The Church Committee

Board of Directors, Deacon Board, Finance Committee, Worship Committee…

Corporate Structure Leadership

When did the assembly of the set-apart ones become a Fortune 500 company? Committees, boards, org charts, HR departments, branding teams. Where in Scripture did the apostles form a marketing committee?

"Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant."

— Matthew 20:26

Yahushua's model was servanthood, not corporate governance. The early assembly had elders and deacons — not CEOs and board members.

501(c)(3) Status

A church incorporated under the state

Government Tax Exemption Authority

To gain tax-exempt status, churches register as corporations — beholden to the government for what they can say, do, and teach. They traded the headship of the Messiah for the headship of the state. And most don't even realize the exchange they made.

"No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other."

— Matthew 6:24

The assembly's only head is Yahushua. When the government can revoke your "status" for speaking truth, who is really in charge?

The Merch Table

T-shirts, coffee mugs, bumper stickers, and branded journals

Commerce Merchandise

Tables set up in the lobby selling branded merchandise. Sound familiar? Yahushua had something to say about commerce in the place of worship — and He didn't say it quietly.

"Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!"

— John 2:16

He flipped the tables then. What would He do now?

This is not about embarrassing anyone. It's about asking a simple question:

"Is this what Yahushua had in mind?"
