Creation's Calendar vs. Man's Calendar

Two calendars, two sources — and the choice every believer eventually has to make.

Two Calendars, Two Sources

Every calendar in the world today comes from one of two sources. Either it comes from Yahuah — set in the sun, moon, and stars at creation — or it comes from men, set in councils, decrees, and traditions.

There is no third option. Every day of every year you live by, you are following one of those two.

What Creation's Calendar Looks Like

Yahuah's calendar is simple, and it is built into the sky He made:

  • The day is marked by the light of the sun — the day begins at dawn when the light breaks, runs through the light portion, through dusk, and through the night, and closes at the next dawn when new light breaks. Light is what defines the day Yahuah set.
  • The month is marked by the renewed moon — the Hebrew word chodesh literally means "renewed."
  • The year begins in the spring with the month of Aviv — "This month shall be unto you the beginning of months" (Exodus 12:2).
  • The feasts all line up with the sun, moon, and stars, on the dates Yahuah Himself set in Leviticus 23.

Anyone, anywhere on the earth, can look up and see what time it is on Yahuah's clock. He didn't hide it in a book. He hung it in the heavens.

What Man's Calendar Looks Like

The calendar hanging on most walls today is the Gregorian calendar. It was created in 1582 by Pope Gregory XIII, replacing the older Roman Julian calendar (created by Julius Caesar in 45 BC).

Look at what it has:

  • Months named after Roman gods — January (Janus), March (Mars), May (Maia), June (Juno).
  • Months named after Roman emperors — July (Julius Caesar), August (Augustus Caesar).
  • Days named after pagan deities — Sunday (sun god), Monday (moon god), Tuesday (Tiw), Wednesday (Woden), Thursday (Thor), Friday (Frigg), Saturday (Saturn).
  • A year that begins in the dead of winter on January 1, with no connection to the sun, moon, stars, or harvest.
  • Months of arbitrary lengths — 30, 31, 28, 29 — disconnected from the moon completely.

Not one piece of this calendar comes from Yahuah's word. Every piece of it traces back to Rome — either pagan Rome or papal Rome.

What Yahuah Said About This

"And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth." — Exodus 23:13

Every time someone says "Saturday" they are speaking the name of Saturn. Every time someone says "January" they are speaking the name of Janus. Yahuah's command was that the names of these false gods would not even be heard from our mouths — yet most of us have spoken them every day of our lives without ever realizing it.

"Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them… and that thou enquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto Yahuah thy Elohim." — Deuteronomy 12:30–31

Yahuah is direct: do not borrow the worship systems of the nations and apply them to Him. But that is exactly what has happened with the calendar.

The Choice in Front of Us

This is not a small issue. The calendar determines:

  • What day we keep as the Sabbath.
  • When we observe Passover — or whether we observe Easter instead.
  • When we keep Yahuah's feasts — or whether we keep Christmas, Halloween, and Lent instead.
  • Whose authority we are submitting to — Yahuah's, or Rome's.

Every believer eventually has to answer the question: which calendar am I going to live by?

Creation's calendar was set by Yahuah on day four and has never changed. Man's calendar was set by Caesars and popes and changes whenever they want it to. The question is not "Which is more convenient?" The question is "Which one belongs to my Father?"

Yahushua the Messiah kept His Father's calendar. He kept Passover. He kept the Sabbath. He kept the feasts. If we are His, we follow His example, on His Father's clock.
