Esther

The book of Esther, the goddess Ishtar, and the star on the flag

The book of Esther is the only book in the Bible that never mentions the name of Yahuah. Its two heroes are named after the chief god and goddess of Babylon. The festival named after it — Purim — is named after the Persian word for dice. And the six-pointed star most Christians associate with King David is actually the symbol of the goddess at the center of the story.

Two short studies follow. They are companions but each stands alone — read either or both.
