Matthew 4:10 — Commandment One and the Man Who Kept It
If Yahushua kept the whole Law, He kept the first commandment, and that took a God above Him.
Thou shalt worship Yahuah thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Matthew 4:10
The pulpit holds two answers at once. Yahushua was 100% God and 100% man the whole time, and He also “laid His deity aside” to become a man. The two cannot both stand. A God who set His deity down was not 100% God, and one who stayed 100% God never set anything down.
Yahushua knew no sin (2 Corinthians 5:21), and sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4), so He kept the first commandment. He kept it in the wilderness: “Thou shalt worship Yahuah thy God, and him only shalt thou serve” (Matthew 4:10; Deuteronomy 6:13). He placed Himself under the command, and Yahuah was His God (John 20:17).
The giver of “thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3) has no God above Him to keep it toward. If the Son were 100% God, the first commandment never applied to Him. If He laid His deity aside, then God stopped being God, yet Yahuah says, “I change not” (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8). And if He could not keep the first commandment, He could not fulfill the Law at all, for whoever keeps the whole law yet offends in one point “is guilty of all” (James 2:10).
Yahuah “is not a man” (Numbers 23:19) and “cannot be tempted with evil” (James 1:13). Yahushua was a man (1 Timothy 2:5) “in all points tempted like as we are” (Hebrews 4:15). The Scripture never needs a God-man formula; it shows a Son who obeyed His God.
He came to fulfill the Law (Matthew 5:17), plēroō (G4137), to fill full by doing it, and not one jot passes (Matthew 5:18).
Revelation still calls Him the one who says “my God” four times in one verse (Revelation 3:12).
