John 14:9-10 — He That Hath Seen Me Hath Seen the Father

The Father did the works, and Israel knew how to see a king in the one he sent.

He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.

John 14:9

When Philip asked to see the Father, Yahushua answered, “he that hath seen me hath seen the Father” (John 14:9). Many read that as “I am the Father,” or “I am God.”

The next verse tells what he meant: “the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works” (John 14:10). The words were the Father’s. The works were the Father’s.

Israel knew this way of seeing. When David sent his servants to Abigail with word that he would take her to wife, “she arose, and bowed herself on her face to the earth” before them (1 Samuel 25:41). She bowed to the messengers because she saw David in them.

Yahushua had said it a chapter earlier: “he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me” (John 13:20). Philip saw the Father the way Abigail saw David. The Son was the one sent. The Father was the one dwelling in him and doing the works.
