Matthew 26:39 — Not as I Will
In the garden there were two wills, and the Son laid his down.
O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
Matthew 26:39
“O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matthew 26:39).
Two wills are in that prayer: “I will” and “thou wilt.” One asked for the cup to pass. The other did not let it pass. The Son set his will aside and took the Father’s.
The Trinity teaches that the Father and the Son are one God with one divine will. The garden shows otherwise. Yahushua had already said, “I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me” (John 5:30). The one who prays and yields is not the One he prays to.
