Hebrews 9:28 — Salvation Still Ahead
Hebrews still speaks of salvation as something ahead.
So Messiah was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
Hebrews 9:28
“Was once offered.” The verb is passive. Messiah was offered up by Yahuah, who “spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all” (Romans 8:32). Then the verse looks forward: at his second appearing he comes “unto salvation.” Deliverance has a side still ahead. Peter speaks of salvation “ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5), and Paul says “now is our salvation nearer than when we believed” (Romans 13:11).
Modern teaching folds salvation into one past moment. Hebrews sets it in two stages. Entry came through the blood, offered once. Consummation comes at the appearing, for “them that look for him,” those still walking in the bread of the commandments. Romans 5:9-10 carries the same pair: justified by his blood, saved by his life. The verse also counts the comings. There is a first and a “second time,” and no hidden coming in between.
