Jude 5 — Saved Out of Egypt, Then Destroyed
A whole nation was saved out of Egypt, and most of it never reached the land.
The Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.
Jude 5
Many believers are taught “once saved, always saved.” Jude reminded his readers of something they already knew: “how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not” (Jude 5).
Every Israelite who walked out of Egypt was saved out of it. They were covered by the blood of the lamb, passed through the sea, and ate the manna. Yet most of that same saved people died in the wilderness and never entered the land. They were saved first and destroyed afterward.
Paul told the assembly this was written for them: “Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition… Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:11-12). A man who cannot fall needs no warning to take heed.
Leaving Egypt was the start of the journey, not the end of it. The blood opened the door; the walk carried them to the land. Yahushua said it plainly: “he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved” (Matthew 24:13).
