John 17:22 — That They May Be One, Even as We Are One
The oneness of the Father and the Son is the same oneness Yahushua prayed for his followers.
And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one.
John 17:22
“I and my Father are one” (John 10:30) is used to teach that the Father and the Son are one God. Yahushua explained what that oneness is in his own prayer.
“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us” (John 17:21). “That they may be one, even as we are one” (John 17:22). He asked for his followers to be one in the same way he and the Father are one.
If “one” meant one God, then the disciples would become God when the prayer was answered. They did not. The oneness is one purpose, one will, one word, the Father in the Son and the Son in his people. That is how the Father and the Son are one, and it is the same way believers are made one with them.
