Hebrews 10:25 — The Assembling Is Not a Sunday Service
The verse names no day and no building.
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:25
Pulpits use this verse to say that missing church on Sunday is sin. The verse names no day and no building. “Assembling” is episynagoge (G1997), a gathering together. Its only other use is 2 Thessalonians 2:1, “our gathering together unto him” at his coming.
The purpose is in the verse: “exhorting one another,” and the verse before it, “provoke unto love and to good works” (10:24). That is a mutual work, not an audience facing a stage. The appointed gatherings of Yahuah are the Sabbath and the feasts, each called a holy convocation, miqra qodesh (Leviticus 23:2-3). Sunday appears nowhere in Hebrews. “The day approaching” is the Day of Yahuah, the reason to gather, not a calendar slot for it.
