Psalm 119:142 — The Law Is the Truth

Scripture calls the Law the truth, and truth does not expire.

Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.

Psalm 119:142

The psalmist wrote, “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth” (Psalm 119:142). The Law is not one truth among many. It is the truth.

Yahushua prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” (John 17:17). The word His followers are set apart by is the same word the psalmist called truth. Yahushua also said of Himself, “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6). The Messiah who is the truth does not stand against the Law that is the truth. Truth does not contradict itself.

John drew the conclusion plainly: “He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him” (1 John 2:4). If the Law is the truth, then a teaching that sets the Law aside sets the truth aside. Truth does not expire at the cross, and neither does the Law.
