John 17:3 — The Only True God

“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Yahushua Messiah, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3).

Yahushua was praying. He spoke to the Father, “thee,” and called Him the only true God. Then he named himself separately, as the one sent.

“Only” leaves no room for a second or a third. If the Son were also the true God, the Father would not be the only one. Yahushua counted one, the Father. Paul counted the same way: “to us there is but one God, the Father” (1 Corinthians 8:6).
