Hebrews 13:15 — The Sacrifice of Praise
A temple needs sacrifices, and the living temple still offers them.
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
Hebrews 13:15
A temple must have sacrifices, and the living temple has them. Hebrews names the first: praise, the fruit of the lips. The phrase reaches back to Hosea 14:2, “so will we render the calves of our lips.” The word “continually” recalls the tamid, the continual offering at the tabernacle morning and evening (Exodus 29:42), and the lamp that burned always before Yahuah (Exodus 27:20).
The offering is made “by him,” through the Son, and “to God,” giving thanks to “his name,” the name of Yahuah. Verse 16 adds a second sacrifice: “to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.” Paul adds a third: “present your bodies a living sacrifice” (Romans 12:1). House, priest, washing, altar, and sacrifice are all still here. They have moved from stone and tent into a living people.
