Hebrews 12:25 — The Same Voice That Spoke at Sinai
Who is speaking from heaven? The next verse says.
See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
Hebrews 12:25
Who is “him that speaketh from heaven”? Verse 26 answers: “whose voice then shook the earth.” That is Sinai (Exodus 19:18). The promise that follows is quoted from Haggai 2:6, which opens “thus saith Yahuah of hosts.” The Speaker is Yahuah. Even at Sinai Yahuah said, “Ye have seen that I have talked with you from heaven” (Exodus 20:22).
The church sets Sinai against Zion: Sinai for law and fear, Zion for favor without commandments. Hebrews sets the same Speaker on both mountains, and says the warning is greater now, not smaller. Yahushua is the mediator of the new covenant (12:24), and he is distinct from him that speaketh. The chapter closes by quoting Moses: “our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29; Deuteronomy 4:24). The God of Sinai has not changed His voice.
