Hebrews 5:7 — The Son Prayed to the One Who Could Save Him
Who was the Son praying to in the days of his flesh?
Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
Hebrews 5:7
In the days of his flesh, Yahushua cried out with tears to “him that was able to save him from death.” The one praying is not the one able to save. Yahuah says plainly, “beside me there is no saviour” (Isaiah 43:11). Even the Son needed deliverance from death, and Yahuah gave it. “Whom God hath raised up” is the steady witness of the apostles (Acts 2:24, 32; 3:15; 4:10).
“Heard in that he feared.” The word is eulabeia (G2124), godly reverence. The Son stood before Yahuah in reverent fear and was heard because of it. Verse 8 adds that he “learned obedience by the things which he suffered,” and verse 9 that he was “made perfect.” None of this can be said of Yahuah. Yahuah saves; the Son provided the way.
