John 17:11 — Thy Name Which Thou Hast Given Me
Yahushua prayed in the name the Father gave him, the name he came in and spoke in.
Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.
John 17:11
Yahushua prayed, “Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me” (John 17:11). The King James reads “those whom,” but nearly every Greek manuscript, including the great family behind the King James itself, reads “which.” The verse says, “keep them in thy name which thou hast given me.” Verse 12 reads the same way. The gift in this prayer is the Father’s name.
Yahushua said it plainly elsewhere: “I am come in my Father’s name” (John 5:43). Paul says the same: “God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name” (Philippians 2:9).
Moses foretold a Prophet who would speak “in my name,” and Yahuah said He would require it of anyone who would not hearken (Deuteronomy 18:19). A name that is given came from the giver. The Son carries the Father’s name because the Father sent him, not because he is the Father.
