Hebrews 10:22 — Washed Like a Priest

Every phrase comes from the day Aaron's sons were made priests.

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

Hebrews 10:22

Every phrase comes from the ordination of Aaron and his sons. They were washed with water at the door of the tabernacle (Exodus 29:4). They were sprinkled with blood (Exodus 29:21). They washed at the laver before they served, “that they die not” (Exodus 30:19-21). Hebrews takes the priestly consecration and lays it on every believer who draws near.

This is what the apostles mean by “an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices” (1 Peter 2:5) and “kings and priests unto God” (Revelation 1:6). A priest serves by the law of the house. Ezekiel 44:23-24 says Yahuah’s priests teach the people the difference between the holy and the profane, keep His laws and statutes, and hallow His Sabbaths. A believer-priest is not freed from the Law of the house. He is made a servant in it.
