Amos 3:7 — Yahuah Uncovers His Counsel Before He Acts

The word for secret is the counsel of friends, and it is kept with all who fear Him.

Surely the Lord Yahuah will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

Amos 3:7

Amos wrote, “Surely the Lord Yahuah will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets” (Amos 3:7). The Hebrew word for secret is sod. It means close counsel, the kind spoken among friends seated together, not orders shouted to strangers. Revealeth means to uncover. Yahuah does not act first and explain later. He uncovers His counsel first.

He did this with Abraham before Sodom: “Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do?” (Genesis 18:17). Abraham was told before the fire fell, and he answered and pleaded for the city. That is counsel between friends.

David shows who is brought into that circle: “The secret of Yahuah is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant” (Psalm 25:14). It is the same word, sod. The counsel is not held back for a special class. It is with everyone who fears Him, and what He shows them is His covenant.

So Yahuah speaks to His people the way a friend speaks: ahead of time and in confidence. The one who fears Him and stays in His covenant is not left in the dark.
