The altar of burnt offering, where judgment fell upon the sacrifice, was overlaid with bronze (Exod 27:1-2), and the bronze laver stood for cleansing (Exod 30:18). Moses lifted a serpent of bronze for healing (Num 21:9). Ezekiel saw the living creatures' feet sparkle "like the colour of burnished brass" (Ezek 1:7), and Daniel's heavenly messenger had feet "like in colour to polished brass" (Dan 10:6). In Revelation 1:15 and 2:18 the Son of man's feet are like fine brass, as if burned in a furnace: firmness and purity, drawn from the tabernacle bronze used where judgment and cleansing happened. He comes to Thyatira as one who has stood where the sacrifice was judged and who now inspects the assembly.
