Manna first fell in the wilderness as bread from heaven, given to prove "whether they will walk in my law, or no" (Exod 16:4). An omer of it was laid up in a pot "before the Testimony" (Exod 16:32-34), hidden in the sanctuary for the generations. Moses gave its meaning: "man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of Yahuah" (Deut 8:3). Revelation 2:17 promises the hidden manna, with the white stone, to those at Pergamos who resist compromise. Bread in the Torah pattern is the walk of the commandments, so the reward is not release from the Law but the hidden bread of it.
