Oil and wine are covenant blessings in the Torah, given with the corn when Israel obeys (Deut 7:13; 11:14). Oil anoints the king, and "the Spirit of Yahuah came upon David from that day forward" (1 Sam 16:13); the shepherd psalm adds, "thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over" (Ps 23:5); and wine "maketh glad the heart of man" (Ps 104:15). The Prophets withdraw and restore both (Joel 1:10; 2:19). The book reads "hurt not the oil and the wine" (Rev 6:6) as the spiritual essentials preserved through the famine of truth: oil the Spirit and anointing, wine the joy of covenant truth. His Spirit and His true doctrine were preserved.
