Adam was the first dwelling place, formed, breathed into, and indwelt as sacred space (Gen 2:7). The tsela taken from his side (Gen 2:21-22) is the word the Torah uses for the tabernacle's side (Exod 26:20) and Ezekiel for the temple's side chambers (Ezek 41:5-6). Yahuah's aim was never a building: "let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them" (Exod 25:8; Lev 26:11-12). Amos sees a plumbline set in the midst of the people (Amos 7:7-8), and John measures the naos and "them that worship therein" (Rev 11:1). The futurist expectation of a rebuilt stone temple misses the point: the worshipers are not visitors in the sanctuary; they are the sanctuary.
