The Torah sets the names of the tribes on stones "like the engravings of a signet" on the high priest's shoulders and breastplate, that Aaron "shall bear their names before Yahuah" (Exod 28:9-12, 17-21), and Joshua raises twelve memorial stones (Josh 4:1-9). Eden's first couple stood "naked, and... not ashamed" (Gen 2:25), and Isaiah promises cleanness again: "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow" (Isa 1:18). The white stone of Rev 2:17 joins the two, a name engraved and borne before Yahuah, purity restored. It rests on the priestly stones, not a Greco-Roman court custom, and marks the overcomer's priestly standing now, with a new name known only to its receiver.
