The head-wound begins at the garden: the seed of the woman "shall bruise thy head" (Gen 3:15). "Yahuah shall wound the head of his enemies" (Ps 68:21), and He goes forth "for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked" (Hab 3:13). Daniel limits the horn to "a time and times and the dividing of time" (Dan 7:25), read by the year-day measure of Num 14:34 and Ezek 4:6. The book places the blow in 1798, when Pius VI was taken captive. The beast is only "as it were" slain, and its recovery is staged, healing through adaptation rather than covenant faithfulness, with the rising United States as instrument.
