At Sinai "there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount," and the whole mount quaked greatly (Exod 19:16-18); Moses spoke, "and Elohim answered him by a voice" (Exod 19:19). The Prophets and Psalms repeat the signature: Yahuah thundered upon the Philistines (1 Sam 7:10), His thunder made the earth tremble (Ps 77:18), and Haggai foretold the shaking of heaven and earth (Hag 2:6-7). In Revelation the theophany sounds from the throne (4:5) and closes the seventh seal, trumpet and bowl (8:5; 11:19; 16:18): the Judge has stood. The Father's voice is thunder, never a trumpet. Futurist teaching stacks these signs into one final disaster, but John repeats them as the Court's signature across the whole age.
