"Judah is a lion's whelp... The sceptre shall not depart from Judah... until Shiloh come" (Gen 49:9-10). Balaam (Num 24:9) and Micah (Mic 5:8) repeat the lion image. In Rev 5:5 the elder's word identifies the One who opens the scroll as the rightful heir to David's throne. When John looks, he sees not a lion but a Lamb (Rev 5:6), and the Lamb "came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne" (Rev 5:7). The heir receives from the Owner; the scene shows two, not one being in two modes, and gives the Trinity no footing.
