The high priest's forehead carried the gold plate engraved "Holiness to Yahuah" (Exod 28:36-38), and Israel was to bind the commandments as frontlets between the eyes (Deut 6:8). Jeremiah names the reversal: "thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed" (Jer 3:3). Ezekiel calls the unfaithful city her mother's daughter (Ezek 16:44-45). In Revelation 17:5 the forehead is the place of public declaration, the reverse of the high priest's plate: "Mystery" signals a code name, and "Mother" marks her as the origin of other corruption. Futurist teaching saves the harlot for a final apostate church, but she rides through the assembly age as the historic system that clothed itself in covenant forms.
