Yahuah specified the materials of the tabernacle and the high priest's garments: "gold, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine linen" (Exod 25:4; 28:5-6), with twelve precious stones in the breastplate for the tribes (Exod 28:17-21); scarlet also served in the cleansing rites (Lev 14:4-6; Num 19:6). Jeremiah mocks Jerusalem for clothing herself "with crimson" and decking herself with ornaments of gold (Jer 4:30), and Ezekiel charges her with taking the jewels Yahuah gave and making images of them (Ezek 16:10-17). In Revelation 17:4 the woman wears purple, scarlet, gold, precious stones and pearls: the exact materials of the covenant sanctuary. She is imitating holiness, having taken the wardrobe of the covenant without its Torah.
