The Psalmist sets the old order against the Creator: "They shall perish, but thou shalt endure... as a vesture shalt thou change them" (Ps 102:26). Isaiah announces, "behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered" (Isa 65:17), and promises that "from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me" there (Isa 66:22-23). Revelation 21:1 is not repair but replacement, something that belongs to a different order altogether. This is the consummation Sabbath, the fourth and final rest. The claim that the Sabbath ended at the cross collapses four Sabbaths into one; Isaiah keeps it into the new creation itself.
