The Psalms first lament that "the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled" (Ps 79:1). Isaiah grieves, "our adversaries have trodden down thy sanctuary" (Isa 63:18), yet calls Zion "the holy city" (Isa 52:1), and Daniel asks how long "the sanctuary and the host" will be "trodden under foot" (Dan 8:13). In Revelation the unmeasured court is surrendered and written off, trampled forty-two months for a defined period of trial, not divine absence. The holy city is Yahuah's covenant people, later shown as the bride (Rev 21:2). The futurist reading of Gentiles trampling a rebuilt Jerusalem temple mistakes the covenant people for real estate.
