Job first calls the grave the place where "the weary be at rest" (Job 3:17). Isaiah says of the righteous taken away, "they shall rest in their beds" (Isa 57:2), and calls them to hide "for a little moment" until "thy dead men shall live" (Isa 26:19-20). Daniel receives the promise, "thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days" (Dan 12:13). Revelation carries this forward: death for the faithful is not a defeat but rest, with resurrection at the appointed time and judgment certain, but not yet. Their works follow them as preserved testimony, not payment, which answers both the teaching that works purchase standing and the teaching that works do not matter.
