Jeremiah pronounces the sentence on Judah three times, then turns it on the nations: "I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle" (Jer 25:10). Isaiah adds, "the mirth of tabrets ceaseth" (Isa 24:8), and over Tyre Yahuah says, "the sound of thy harps shall be no more heard" (Ezek 26:13). Revelation 18:22-23 repeats the inventory almost word for word: music, craft, millstone, lamp and wedding all fall silent. The silence is the verdict itself. It is a system that no longer exists.
