Torah forbids every enchanter, witch and charmer as an abomination (Deut 18:10-12), and Jehu names Jezebel's "whoredoms" and "witchcrafts" together (2 Kgs 9:22). Isaiah tells Babylon that loss and widowhood will come "for the multitude of thy sorceries" (Isa 47:9), and Nineveh is "the mistress of witchcrafts, that selleth nations through her whoredoms" (Nah 3:4). Revelation's pharmakeia is the manipulation of people's perception and will through means they could not detect or resist. The deception was so complete that the deceived could only mourn, not repent. Sorcery and harlotry stand together in every text, because both trade covenant loyalty for a power that is not Yahuah's.
