"Great city" first names Nimrod's builds, Babel through Nineveh, "the same is a great city" (Gen 10:10-12), and Jonah's Nineveh is "an exceeding great city" (Jonah 3:3). The Prophets use Sodom as a moral label: Isaiah calls Jerusalem's rulers "ye rulers of Sodom" (Isa 1:10), and Ezekiel names Sodom Jerusalem's sister (Ezek 16:46-49). Rev 11:8 says "spiritually" Sodom and Egypt, covenant labels that describe character, not geography: Sodom for hardened rebellion and corruption, Egypt for bondage and oppression of Yahuah's people. City language means a system of authority and organized power, not a single physical address, set against the New Jerusalem. The futurist reading of a literal street in Jerusalem overlooks the text's own word "spiritually."
