Rebekah's family asks that she stay "a few days, at the least ten" (Gen 24:55); Israel tempts Yahuah "these ten times" in the wilderness (Num 14:22); Daniel asks, "Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days" (Dan 1:12). In each case ten marks a full measure that is nonetheless bounded. Rev 2:10 promises Smyrna "tribulation ten days," in prophetic language a complete but limited period of trial, set by Yahuah and not by the persecutor. Many connect it to the Great Persecution of AD 303-313 under Diocletian, ten years read by the year-day principle. Either way, the trial has an end fixed in advance: "be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
