The Torah uses the number for completeness: Yahuah keeps covenant "to a thousand generations" (Deut 7:9) and "a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday" (Ps 90:4). Isaiah sees the powers on high "gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit... and after many days shall they be visited" (Isa 24:21-22). The book reads the thousand years as a complete number, not a calendar: the entire gospel age between the first coming and the return, while the adversary's power to deceive the nations is restrained. No future earthly reign is in view; the little season of release is a final test, not a failure.
