The Torah requires "just balances, just weights" (Lev 19:36) and threatens that in judgment bread will be delivered "again by weight" (Lev 26:26; Ezek 4:16). Wisdom names the opposite: "A false balance is abomination to Yahuah" (Prov 11:1). The Prophets charge Israel's merchants with "the balances of deceit" (Hos 12:7), "falsifying the balances by deceit" (Amos 8:5), and Belshazzar is himself "weighed in the balances, and art found wanting" (Dan 5:27). The book reads the scales of the third seal as dishonest measure: truth traded, measured and sold for political survival, controlled and distributed unevenly by church authority. The image is a famine of the word under institutional control, not a forecast of future grocery prices.
