Isaiah bids the ships of Tarshish howl for Tyre (Isa 23:1), and Ezekiel stages the lament: princes come down from their thrones, "the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall stand upon the land" and cast dust on their heads (Ezek 26:16; 27:29-30). Babylon boasts, "I shall not sit as a widow" (Isa 47:8), the very widow Jerusalem became (Lam 1:1). Tyre was the preview; Babylon in Revelation is the full feature. Kings, merchants and mariners grieve not for Babylon but for their own lost profit, showing power without repentance. Her boast "I sit a queen, and am no widow" (Rev 18:7) is turned into her own three charges.
