Messiah — mashiach, ‘the anointed one’ — is a title of appointed office, not a name and not a claim to independent deity. To be the Messiah is to be the One Yahuah anointed and installed: invested with office by the Anointer, holding authority conferred, not seized. Kings and priests were each a mashiach in their measure; the Messiah is the anointed One in the fullest measure, appointed to reign and to judge by the Father’s own commission. The title itself is a hierarchy: there is One who anoints and one who is anointed. To confess Yahushua as Messiah is to confess Him as the appointed of Yahuah — given dominion, not sharing an eternal throne by nature.
