108Reward

sakar / misthos — Hebrew / Greek

A reward is the due paid to the faithful — the legal wage earned and owed, handed down at the verdict. “Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be” (Revelation 22:12) is a payout, rendered by the Judge according to the record. Sakar and misthos both mean wage, hire, the pay due for labor. A reward is not a whimsical gift but a due: what the faithful have earned and the court owes them. This is why it is paid ‘according to works’ — the reward is calibrated to the record, the wage assessed and rendered at the bench. To be rewarded is to be paid what one is owed.

Its Role in the Court

The faithful earn a due, and the reward is its payment — the wage owed, handed down at the verdict according to works. It is not a gift of whim but a due assessed against the record. The Judge comes to render every man’s reward according to his work: the payout calibrated to the ledger. To be rewarded is to be paid what one is owed, the wage rendered at the bench.
