Ezekiel first divides his shaved hair in three: a third burned, a third smitten with the sword, a third scattered to the wind (Ezek 5:2, 12). Zechariah reuses the measure, two parts cut off and "the third part through the fire" to be refined (Zech 13:8-9). Revelation's thirds come from Ezekiel's hair: measured judgment, a warning shot that reveals and separates while the door to repentance stays open. The trumpets strike a third, not the whole, because they are calls to turn, sounded through the assembly age. The futurist reading of one-third of the planet literally destroyed in a coming tribulation misses Ezekiel's sign, which was acted out over a covenant city.
