The Torah first turns water to blood in Egypt, "and the fish that was in the river died" (Exod 7:20-21). Jeremiah calls Babylon a destroying mountain to be made "a burnt mountain" (Jer 51:25), and has a stone cast into the Euphrates: "Thus shall Babylon sink" (Jer 51:63-64). Ezekiel's Tyre sinks "in the midst of the seas" with her merchants (Ezek 27:27). Revelation's burning mountain is a collapsing kingdom, Rome burning from within and losing its sea power, while a third of the sea turns to blood as dependent peoples, trade and ships bear the cost. The trumpets are spiritual warfare through the assembly age, not a future asteroid strike.
