Rev 3:9

Esau sold his birthright for red pottage, "therefore was his name called Edom" (Gen 25:30); Edom means red. Isaac foretold that he would one day "break his yoke" (Gen 27:40). Edom cried "Rase it" over Jerusalem (Ps 137:7), claimed "These two nations... shall be mine" (Ezek 35:10), and is answered in Obadiah, where "the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions" (Obad 1:17). Malachi closes with "I hated Esau" (Mal 1:3). The book reads Esau's line as the standing rival for what was lost at the birthright exchange, seen in Herod the Idumean on Judea's throne. Revelation's "which say they are Jews, and are not" (Rev 3:9) names the same counterfeit claim, a matter of covenant standing, not bloodline.
