Job first speaks the image: "when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold" (Job 23:10). The Psalms and Proverbs make Yahuah the refiner who tries hearts (Ps 66:10; Prov 17:3), Isaiah names the "furnace of affliction" (Isa 48:10), and Zechariah and Malachi close the line: Yahuah will "refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried" (Zech 13:9; Mal 3:3). Revelation offers Laodicea this gold: tested and purified belief, true riches bought "without money" (Isa 55:1). The prosperity teaching that counts wealth as Yahuah's favor is answered by Laodicea itself, rich and increased in goods, yet poor and naked before Him.
