Ezekiel shaves his head and divides the hair by weight into three parts: a third burned, a third smitten with the sword, a third scattered to the wind, with a few hairs bound in his skirt (Ezek 5:1-4, 12). Zechariah repeats the threefold sentence: two parts cut off, and "I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined" (Zech 13:9). When the great city is divided into three parts in Revelation 16:19, the corrupt system is completely exposed and fully dismantled. The division is covenant separation, not random destruction: the corrupt is removed and the genuine refined, the same measured sorting the prophets acted out.
