The serpent first appears in Eden under the promise of a crushed head (Gen 3:15). The Psalms see Yahuah break "the heads of the dragons in the waters" (Ps 74:13), Isaiah promises to slay "the dragon that is in the sea" (Isa 27:1), and Ezekiel names Pharaoh "the great dragon" (Ezek 29:3). Revelation's red dragon is the tannin of hostile empire and the ancient serpent and accuser, a system of opposition, not just an individual being, red for bloodshed. His tail is deception, "the prophet that teacheth lies" (Isa 9:15). The reading of a pre-creation angelic revolt in the third of the stars is answered by Daniel 8:10, where the little horn casts down the host within history.
