"All these are the twelve tribes of Israel" (Gen 49:28). Moses builds "twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes" at Sinai (Exod 24:4); twelve stones bear their names on the breastplate (Exod 28:21); Joshua lifts twelve stones from the Jordan (Josh 4:3-8); Elijah repairs the altar with "twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes" (1 Kgs 18:31). Twelve always marks the whole covenant people standing before Yahuah. In Revelation 21 the city's gates, foundations, 12,000 stadia, and 144-cubit wall tie back to the 144,000: twelve times twelve is not math; it is theology, the people perfectly secured, numbered, and known. The futurist picture of a literal 1,500-mile cube descending from space reads measurement where the text gives meaning.
