20Atonement
kaphar — Hebrew
kaphar (H3722) — to cover, to purge, to make atonement; to satisfy a claim.
Kaphar (atonement, the covering) and kopher (ransom, the price of a life) share the k-p-r root: atonement covers the charge, the ransom pays the price that covers it.
A settlement term — the covering of guilt that closes the case and clears the account.
A filed charge must be answered before the account can close. Atonement answers it — the blood applied, the claim covered, the ledger squared. It is not a change of feeling but a discharge of liability, and in the true court the price that covers is the one Yahuah provided, not one the guilty could pay.
Leviticus 17:11 “It is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.” The covering that answers the claim.
Leviticus 16:30 “On that day shall the priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you.” The docket cleared on Yom Kippur.
Romans 5:11 “By whom we have now received the atonement.” The settlement received.
Isaiah 53:5 “The chastisement of our peace was upon him.” The price of the covering, laid on the Lamb by the Father.
Atonement means to cover a charge and settle the account — to wipe the debt so the books balance. It is not a warm feeling of closeness; it is a legal discharge of guilt, paid with a price Yahuah provided.
A debt is filed against you, and someone lays a covering over it that answers it in full — the account reads zero. That is atonement: not the case forgotten, the case closed. And the covering was provided by the Judge Himself, at His own cost.
- Yahuah (the Judge, the Provider) provides the covering that settles the claim.
- Yahushua (the covering provided) the Lamb on whom the price was laid.
- The guilty (the Defendant) whose charge is covered and account cleared.
Movement IV — The Acquittal. Charged and unable to pay, you are cleared at the tree — the Father laid the account on the Lamb He provided. Entry by blood.
