agorazo — Greek

To buy is to acquire by paying the market price and thereby transfer ownership from seller to buyer. “Ye are not your own... ye are bought with a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20) states a completed purchase with a change of owner: the believer is property lawfully acquired at cost. The verb is commercial and legal, not romantic. To be bought is to have a new owner with the owner’s rights over the thing purchased. This is why the redeemed are called servants and the price is named blood — the transaction moved title, and title carries authority.
